I would like to add the ability to attach documents when I do mass emailing to the class.

Best thing to do is upload the document to the server and send a link to it in your mass email.

1) Click the chain link icon on your editor
2) Click the Upload tab
3) Upload your document
4) Create a link to it in your message text
5) Send email
