does couple need separate email addresses?

We have classmates married to each other who use the same email address. Do they need separate ones?

I just tried creating a 2nd test account with the same email address, but a different password. So, it would seem that 2 classmates can use the same email address, but each member must have a unique password in order to get to the correct profile. So, depending upon which password is entered for the same email address, classcreator will map the session to the appropriate classmate profile.

Keep in mind also that a very handy feature for married classmates is the ability to link each spouse's name with his/her individual profile for easy cross reference.

That is correct, one e-mail address is all that is needed, but separate passwords. One reminder to tell the classmates - tell them to LOGOUT after each use. Otherwise, if one spouse gets an e-mail from a classmate and clicks on the VIEW E-MAIL, if the other spouse didn't logout, they will get a message that the classmate message is for a different user.
