I created 4 announcements today, all of which have start dates and end dates for about a week from now. I noticed that all four of them have a lock icon following the start date. None of the other similar announcements that I have created have the lock icon. I don't know what the lock signifies. I've never noticed it before. I'm just trying to make sure my announcements become active when they are supposed to.

If you go to Edit Site Pages, EDIT PAGE for the Home Page, you will see that for Announcements, you have them showing up for classmates only. The LOCK ICON is showing you that the announcements are protected and only visible to classmates.

The LOCK ICON has gone away. The programmers made a change so it doesn't show up if the Logged In Only option is selected on the Edit Site Pages, Edit Page for Home Page, and then for "Announcements" the "Logged In Only" option is checked.

Thank you for looking into it for me. I was puzzled about why a lock icon had suddenly appeared on the latest announcements I had created. I made those announcements in exactly the same fashion as I had all the ones before it. I appreciate your help!
