Scanning info needed

Although I have scanned a lot of pictures I am now having a "senior" moment and need help. I have received some group grade school photos. I want to put them on the home page briefly and then put them on one of topic pages on the side. When I try to make the pictures larger they become fuzzy. I have a Brother MFC 6490-cw scanner/printer and I use Picassa for editing. I have scanned in different dpi, but so far I don't seem to be doing it correctly. Help...thanks!

This help document pertains to scanning Yearbook Photos, but the principles are the same.
