I've sometimes received requests from classmates that want to be added to my multi-year site. They may say, for instance as in today's message, they're living in San Diego. The IP address indicates it's actually Odessa, TX.

BTW, he really does seem to be a classmate as I found his junior photo in the yearbook before his 2002 class.

Thanks for explanation of what IP address is and is not.

Cheryl

Technical LINK

Practical explanation: It's just where a user got a connection. IOW, if you are on vacation it will give the IP address where you connected. For a phone, it can jump all over the place as one drives.

For CC it's the location of their servers, not where CC is located.

IOW, it's where one is currently located, not where one lives. Usually IP location and where one lives are close together. For example, my IP says I'm in Seattle, but that's just where Comcast servers are located. I'm about 20 miles North of Seattle.

For the spy, it's possible to bypass local server address and hop on a remote server and then go from there.
