When adding obituary information for a classmate and checking the box to notify classmates, the notification does not go out to classmates.

It isn't supposed to. The checkbox is only to notify those who have desired to be notified through the NOTIFY ME page. If you want to notify everyone, you still need to use the EMAIL THE CLASS feature.

While some people don't like getting emails [some of my classmates think the site is only for reunions], I still send a brief email to everyone on a classmate death.

Subject line: Classmate Death
Body of msg: Please see the In Memory page for [classmate], who passed away on [date]

We add a notice of any new classmate deaths on our homepage. They can then go to In Memory or other pages for more detail.

I do the same Steve, and the class seems to like that. I also keep them up with family illnesses (i.e. a brother in serious condition or a parents' death). Only 2 people have asked not to be contacted. I try not to make too many emails so they appreciate the ones they get.
