I am not ready to launch store but can find no way to delete it. I tried to inactivate but that did not keep it from appearing on home page.

I don't see the "Class Store" on your home page. Are you still having problems or did you resolve your problem? The "Class Store" is part of the Home Page and on the Right-Side Modules, so to deactivate it, you need to Edit Site Pages, EDIT PAGE for the Home Page, then uncheck the "active" checkbox next to the "Class Store" and then save the changes for the page.
