Is there a way to delete the extra pages I have added, created, that are no longer in use in an effort to clean up, reorganize, make pretty my "edit site pages" tab?

Sure.

1) Go into Edit Site Pages
2) Click the Edit button next to any unused page.
3) Click the Source button
4) Press control-A to select everyting, then press delete on your keyboard.
5) At the top of the page rename your page something like "Unused Link"
6) Save page.
7) Deactive page, which will remove it from your left navigation of course.

Repeat above process for all pages you wish to clean up.
