Hi Everyone,

I'd like to hear from Admins who have RESTRICTED their Classmate Profiles page to Members only.

I believe it is best to do this with my alumni site. Please tell me your best practices.

Thanks!

Hi Gwen,
Many years ago, shortly after I took over as root, I and several classmates got an email claiming to be from our high school Alumni Association and asking us to "join your classmates" on one of their web sites for a $100 one time fee.

I took a look at the class web site they offered, and it didn't seem to offer much beyond listing all our classmates with icons for military and In Memory - although there were no photos or an In Memory page. Their service description noted that anything posted became their property to use as they wished.

So after a quick check with the Alumni Association, I sent a warning to all my classmates, and (locking the barn door after all the horses had been stolen) I restricted the Classmate Profiles page. The Alumni Association sent them a letter demanding that they remove all our high school web sites, but I never looked back to see if they were still there.

Not too long after that, the Login/Sign-in page was changed so that anyone wanting to join would be taken to the Missing classmates page to find their name if the Profiles page was locked.
