Email Bouncebacks

Our site (BillingsSr65.com) has had an extremely large number of BOUNCEBACKS. As of today the count is still over 70. We have been contacting people and helping them get their email reset. This often take an hour or more. In nearly all cases the currently listed EMAIL is still the correct email.

Why is this not something that you fix on your end?

This has been an ongoing issue for us since you site was updated last summer/fall.

With the count still over 70, how can we get the "bounceback" flag reset so the valid emails start working again?

Was this ever addressed? I have 739 bounced emails. How do I tell if they are truly bounced emails without working each classmate?

Thanks

Hi Catherine,

The issue Melvin had happening was resolved in the past.

Each provider may have a different way of stating similar items like a mailbox no longer working on their system. Looking through some of yours I'm seeing the following that indicate that the mail box the system was trying to send to is no longer active.

mailbox unavailable
This mailbox is disabled
No such user here
NoSuchUser

For this type of bounce you would need a new email address for the user . They can either change their own email under Member Functions > Edit Contact Info or you can change it for them under Admin Functions > Manage Classmates > Enter/edit Classmates > Details page for the classmate.

There are other items to look out for like being out of storage/over quota

The recipient's inbox is out of storage space
Over quota unable to receive messages until space is cleared.

This type of bounce requires the user to clean up their email box. It may also mean they no longer use that email and have let it fill up until it can't accept messages.

If it is simply over quota they can clean up some space and then to the site and login - on the home page they will see an option to send themselves a verification email to clear the bounce. If that email arrives (because they have room to receive new messages) they simply click the link and it clears the bounce.

If you are seeing any unusual bounces you can message us at https://www.classcreator.com/contactus.cfm and click the Email link - only add bounce details there because you don't want to post classmate email details on this public forum. If you let us know there which one you want us to take a look at we can let you know more information about a specific bounce message.
