is there a way to have the "message Center" disabled?

No, it is not possible. The "Message Center" is how classmates communicate. Without communication, your website would not be inviting to your classmates. If you are talking about the "Member Forum", that can be disabled and you have already done that. (you have renamed it "message center", but it is really Member Forums)

I also am interested in an ~option~ to turn off the Message Center - we don't really want any classmate to email the entire class. Not sure why we must have that capability, when they have the User Forums and the Profile Messages? Thank you.
