We want to be able to add parents and other friends of our school to our memorial page. An example would be the commanding General who recently passed away.

I see that there are two classifications of profiles Classmates and Teachers. Is there a way to create another profile type to solve this problem?

Is there something I'm completely missing?

Yes. The member type you are looking for is a Guest Member. There are two types of Guest Members:

1) Displaying Guests
2) Non Displaying Guests

When you add a new member to your site, simply select "Show as Guest Member" instead of "Show on Class List." This will tell the system that the member is a Displaying Guest. Once you've done this, then you'll need to:

1) Click Edit Site Pages
2) Click the Edit button next to your In Memory page
3) From the dropdown list mark the Guest as deceased
