Click on Notify Me under Member Functions in your left side menus. Choose the types of email notifications you want to receive, and whether your want to see them Immediately or lumped together in a Once Daily email. Then page down to choose the classmates you want to be notified about when their profiles are updated or they have a birthday.

As John mentioned there is a daily summary email for those items listed under once daily. That summary email is called: Highlights and Updates
