I've uploaded our member list of 500+ names, but so far only have about 20 who have updated their profiles. We haven't spread the word about our site yet.

In the meantime, we've revised data for many of the classmates. Besides updating those records one-at-a-time, can I re-upload the data file and protect the 20 records that have been revised by members?

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: on the Manage Classmates, Upload Class List, there is an option for Reset Classmates. When you click this, you will get the option to unselect certain profiles before they are deleted.

Here is the quotation from that page:
RESET CLASSMATES: If you have uploaded a test .csv file or have made a mistake and need to reset your Class List, click the Reset Classmates button. This will allow you to delete all Classmates in the system, and then you can upload a new .csv file from scratch. Before deleting Classmates you will have the opportunity to deselect any Classmates you do not wish to remove from your site.

Exactly. Make extra sure you DESELECT any Classmates who have already joined your site before resetting your Class List. You cannot upload a revised Excel record for a Classmate if that Classmate already exists in the system. So you do in fact have to delete the Classmate completely by using the Reset Class List option Kyle cited. Again, just make sure you reset only the Classmate names who have NOT joined the site, and that you don't reset the Classmate names who have already joined.
