I am interested in learning how to personalize our header photo instead of using a template.
Can anyone help me learn how to do this ?

You mean the top image in your current template for the site or did you mean something else?

It's possible to customize anything now using CSS style overrides. In your existing template it is the #header and #sidebarGraphic definitions. Just supply new images.

Assuming you mean the overall general page layout - you'll always need to start with one of the CC templates.

Have you considered using one of the newer designs that were made for top image replacement? It's possible to do this with any of them, but using the new ones makes it much simpler.
