Can you please confirm that if a Classmate wishes to opt-out of receiving notifications of posts and post responses that others put on the What's New page (my Notice Board page) they have to checkmark the 'Never' button alongside 'A classmate posts a message to the class'.

I just wasn't clear if this was the one to use.

Yes it will keep them from receiving posts to the class that occur on the Notify Me/Notice Board, however, Notify Me is a collection of activities on the site so if they are signed up to receive any of the profile updates and birthday notices for the classmates they are following they will continue to receive those separately as part of those Notify Me/Classmates I'm Following settings.
