I fixed it for her. She had turned off "guest is a classmate" during her registration. If you see any others here is the process: Go to Event Planner > Edit > Quick Links > Transactions > Edit for the transaction next to their name. Choose the Pencil/Edit icon next to their name and select the "Guest is a classmate" check box - this brings up a search - search their name and select it from the list and save the change. This connects the registration to their profile. This is the selection by default, however, they may have turned it off accidentally. Once you make that change the Attending Icon will appear next to their name one Classmate Profiles and the event will be listed under their Master Photo on their Profile page.
