I recently added This Year in History to our home page. It seems to be problematical and I would like to delete it. How do I do this?

Do you mean "This DAY in history"? This can be deactivated or moved to the middle section on the Edit Site Pages, Edit Home Page. Just click the checkbox to deactivate the module.
