I created custom icons but did not check the 'show on deceased members' box.

Yes, instead of clicking the CREATE ICON button, select the EDIT button when you mouse-over the custom icon you want to edit. Then choose the "show on deceased members" checkbox and save the changes.

Thanks Kyle, I never moused over the icon in the list so I never saw the edit option.
