I want to change the background, but the sides are the only background that will show.

Where do I find the dimensions of the sides?

It appears that under Admin Functions > Change Design, you've chosen one of the Professional Designs for your site, then, under Site Colors, aligned it to the center. In the Site Colors section, you've uploaded a background image with leaves, which appears on both sides.

For the Professional Designs, I don't believe you can alter the dimensions of the background image. I think the dimensions are fixed in size.

I believe you have two choices to change the background: Under Site Colors, you may upload a different file, or choose a background color from the palette by clicking on the box on the far right side of Background color and selecting a color.

Did you mean the background of your PAGES vs the background as described by Scott?

Both can be done with CSS overrides. Main page would mimic the way it's done on Responsive Design. Other pages sorta the same - again uses CSS overrides.
