I have not done this at all so I am researching all possibilities.

Ours is a large (several thousand) non-school group. We will be videotaping a 3 hour meeting that many of our members will not be able to attend but who would like to "view". Can anyone suggest the best way to accomplish this?

One thing I think is that - rather than one continuous 3 hour file, we will stop and start the camera at each segment of discussion - most are between 10 and 20 minutes. So, the entire meeting will be comprised of multiple smaller files.

One big thing....I don't want it to be for public "finding". I'd like it to be password or login protected.

I am open to any and all suggestons.

Make a Web Site and use one of the on line sites to host it and you can set up all of your factor. Take a look at SmugMug.com they do a Great Job with this type of project.
