Is there a way to have the website email a user after their idenity has been verified and access has been granted to password protected pages of the website?

No, but even if there was, Admins would want to customize that email verbiage to say different things. I think this is the type of situation where you are best off simply sending your own "welcome aboard" message. You may even want to customize the message differently based on the Classmate you're welcome aboard.
