The person that created our reunion site and is the root admin no longer wants to be involved. He has given me admin rights to take over but I can't seem to add others as admins and he is still showing up as the root admin. How do I change it from him to me?

You have to have him click on PREFERENCES and then choose your name from the drop-down list of admins. This will make you the root admin. Only the Root Admin can see the PREFERENCES left-side link. So you cannot do it, he must do it.

And what if I can't get him to log back in and make the change After he handed everything over to me by making me the admin he has washed his hands of doing anything.

Tell him this is the last step they would need to make in order to give you the control you need to make all changes on the site. We have a firm policy that Root Admins make the change themselves or provide you with their login information so you can make the change for them. Jessica
