I am trying to add existing classmates to the In Memory page. I added the ** behind their names but this has not changed anything? What am I doing wrong? Just in case you need the info they are:

Paula,

Do the following:
Edit Site Pages
Edit IN MEMORY page
Scroll down the page
Search for the deceased classmate and then click the ADD DECEASED CLASSMATE button
The classmate will be added to the IN MEMORY page.
Scroll down the IN MEMORY page and choose EDIT next to the classmate.
Add any obituary information and year of death and photo information you want
Save the changes.
Test that the changes show up when you click IN MEMORY link.

Delete the ** your put behind their last name...those are put in automatically when you add the classmate to the In Memory.

I added a name to In Memory, but how do I put the rose beside her name?

The ROSE icon happens when there is something more than just the name of the deceased classmate. So go to your Edit Site Pages, Edit the IN MEMORY page, EDIT the classmate, add any obituary information you may have, or type "Rest in peace" or something like that. Or if you or a classmate views the IN MEMORY for this classmate and leaves a comment in the comment section. If this happens, you will get the ROSE icon.
