Customizing a 'standard' theme?

I'm sure you've dealt with this, but I couldn't find it. Is it possible to customize one of the 'standard themes' - say the 1950's by adding our "Letter" instead of the "M", etc?

The only thing I would add to that is customizable themes have been bumped to 2010 with all of the other tasks that got moved ahead of them this year.
