Is it possible for some text on the Home Page to appear only for a user who has not logged in. We have some explanatory text at the start of our home page about how to register. But a logged in user doesn't need to see this.

You can accomplish this with announcements.

To expand on what Fred said...

We set our announcements to display at the top of the home page so they will be the first thing people see. There's a permanent announcement which displays for 'non-logged in' visitors and says:
"New to our site? Click here for instructions" - where the link points to a page full of instructions and information. That page, by the way, also shows up in the left-side menu choices, and contains information for registered members as well.

We use the fly out menu feature. We have 2 under the homepage. First one is 'How to join the site' and the Second one is 'how to use the site' which is still under contructions. Just position those pages under the ehompage. Check out my site.
Your are welcome to copy and paste the text if you would like to. You can modify to your site. We also have a link at the top of our page explaining our privacy & other policies. You are welcome to use that too.
I hope this helps! Very Happy

Thanks everyone. Announcements turned out to be just the right thing for us.
