Insert variable when editing site page?

I understand the use of variables in automatic emails. Can these be used within the content of a page? I'm updating the "first time visitor" site page, and would like to insert the then-current site administrator's first and last name (like using the email replacement variable $ca_first_name$). How do I do that, presumably in Source or HTML mode? When I examine the page in either mode, the replacements have already happened. On a related topic, can other fields be accessed other than those documented? Are there more global/user-specific data fields?

Those variables are not possible to be used in a website page, only in an email page.
