what is a good width for a player to be?? I tried to put in some breaks to move it down below the "missing classmates", but it seemed to only move down so far and continued to block a small part of the missing classmate square. (maybe i needed to add a zillion more breaks??)

A zillion breaks would surely do the trick. If you want to error on the side of caution though, try adding two zillion.

Or, an even better solution would be:

1) Click the Source button
2) Change all 4 widths in your Playlist player code to 370

Then save your page and preview it live. Oh, make sure you actually change all 4 widths. I.E. you'll see 4 places in that code where the width is specified at 435. Change each 435 to 370 instead. Problem solved.
