Email responses not there

What am I doing wrong. Very often I respond inside the site to email that I get via the site...But I don't see ANY responses as noted by the green turned arrow above the lists I see my outbox of emails and my inbox of emails, but don't see my responses to those in my inbox - either in the inbox or the outbox. What am I doing wrong. I DO get them in my native email, but not on the site?
