Is the Announcement category the best way to keep the class updated on minor things that pop up?

When I post something does an email go out to everyone who is on the site?

I can't figure out if folks are being notified and when.

Hi Franny,

Email the class is the best way to make sure most classmates receive the notice. Classmates can Manage their Notify Me settings under Member Functions > Notify Me and will sometimes turn off (choose never) or set to once daily many of the notification types. When an administrator sends a message (Email the Class) is statistically the most immediate received message for all site members. Other messages may end up as a summary of messages in a daily highlights message they receive the next morning if they have it set to once daily.

Anything that is time sensitive or important should go out using Email the Class.
