In October 2011 Eric Bassey created a variable: $homepage_hits$ that could be placed on the homepage to show hits to the site. Can a similar variable be created that would allow us to show how much information is currently stored in the File Vault? Specifically I'd like to display that I'm currently using xx.x MB.

why would you want to let your classmates know this information?

This information is available to the admin on several pages. It is shown on the Gallery Creator page, it is also shown on the File Vault page.

Some classmates upload photos to the galleries. As they already know the storage limit it would give them an indication of how many pictures they could post. As to either all other classmates or even visitors I can think of no downside to letting them know.

While it's relatively easy for me to find this information and this would make it even easier I wouldn't want you to go to any trouble to create this variable. However, if it's not difficult I'd like to see this for the reason given above. Additionally, I consider this to be of the lowest priority.

Try $filevault_status$ and see if that meets the need.
