Trying to add new member to class list. Can add basic info, save but can’t create temporary password so I can activate account b4 turning it over to classmate. Once saved it doesn’t appear on list of classmates. Never had any trouble doing this in past. Am I meeting sing something?

Are you trying to add them as a non-displaying class member? That is the only time you would need to enter a password for them because it will not generate a link for them to "join". What is the first initial and last name of the person you added so I can check the record. You only need to add a name for them to join. If they are non-displaying you need to add their email and a password for them as well.
