For those of us old enough to have grown up enjoying the songs from The Sound of Music -- Julie Andrews has recently written lyrics for "My New Favorite Things" - in honor of her 79th birthday. My classmates got a huge kick out of this (it's posted on our Spotlight on page) For anyone wanting to browse any password protected page from my site - the password is: petunia

do take a look at the Spotlight on - you'll enjoy Julie's spin on aging. Very Happy

Thanks for sharing that Guys! We're having our 50th next weekend and you are somewhat a part of it. I got the idea from you to build a corn-hole game and am selling raffle tickets for it as a fund raiser for our class gift to the school! Thanks for the idea. These Admin Forums are SUPER! We get to share ideas!

Have a great time next weekend. On one of my travels to Raleigh (my sister lives in Raleigh) - we should meet for lunch.

Hi,
That is great! And I can almost hear her singing it. May I copy it for my site? And if you say 'yes', how do I copy it without copying the entire page with your school's personal logos, etc.?

Hey Barbara....by all means - post on your site. Here's the lyrics:

My new favorite things

By Julie Andrews ---written in celebration of her 79th birthday (2013)

Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Unfortunately this is one of those urban legends not based in fact. See the link here:

However, that does not make it any less fun or any less worth checking out. Someone (but not Julie Andrews)was very clever and very talented. I certainly enjoyed it!

Thanks for sharing the lyrics for "My New Favorite Things"! Too bad about it not being Julie Andrews, I was so wanting to HEAR her SING it! And I still like the corn-hole raffle idea, thanks for sharing that too! And Steve, be sure and let us know how well it succeeds at your reunion this weekend. All the best!
