I was working on several pages last night, and when I got back to the home page, an IM chat had popped up. She'd logged off by the time I saw it, but that brought up two questions: First, it would be nice if there was some little pop-up notification when someone posts an IM chat and we're not on the home page. Most folks spend a lot more time on other pages than the home page when they're on the site. And second, the time/date in her message was the next day at 3am. Both of us have the time zone set in our profiles, so my guess is that what was shown was GMT time - which would be 5 hours ahead of us. Would be nice if the time shown was local time.

I'm here to add... it would be nice to be able to click a button to 'reply by private message' when you've missed someone. Just a thought for down the road.

Isn't your IM available on all pages of your site? It should already work just as you've described.

IM is hidden when editing pages. And there is not an option to reply by private message to the message a member sent you when you were editing pages. A private message is not the same as the private chat option in the IM.

Thanks, John. We have programmers on it.

John, the IM should be working on all of our admins windows. Thanks for asking about it.

Brad (and Gwen), the IM is indeed there on all pages I tried - except for Edit Site Pages and when you're actually editing a page, which seems to be where I spend a lot of my time going between pages and building or editing content. The time displayed is obviously not a major problem. It just caught my eye.

You are right, John. The odd thing is that the IM appears when editing announcements but not site pages. The only other page it does not show on is Subscriptions.

From programmer: Unfortunately there's some pages (mentioned above) where javascript breaks because of the IM Chat. IM was disabled on these admin pages. Easiest workaround is to keep another browser window (or tab) open when using one of those pages. Also, IM is disabled on all secure pages (i.e. Subscription).

Got it. Guess I'll either have to remember to open a new tap - and remember to check it regularly, or remember to simply mark myself "Do Not Disturb" when I'm editing pages.

John, I usually have the extra tab open. I still miss IMs.
