Hello,
While attempting to post a comment on the Message Forum ( not logged-on) you will be directed to a page which says "you must log-in to post comments". Upon clicking that link, you are directed to the Home page for Log-in. After log-in you are "still" on the Home page. Question: After log-in, shouldn't you be automatically directed back to the "Message Forum" to post the comment?? Seems as though this was working before but not now. Thank you for your help!

It's always been the case that if you go to the home page to log on, you remain on that page after you log on. You are never automatically directed to any other page you tried to access without being logged on.

I don't see this as a big problem. If a classmate wishes to log on quickly, he/she should check "Keep Me Logged In" when they log in. Then, they never have to worry about a delay in accessing a page which requires a log in.

Restrict the Message Forum link to only be available to only logged in. Then that can't happen Cool

Yes, there are advantages to “keep me signed in” It’s quick and convenient. However, as administrator one goal is not to expose other classmate members to potential hackers lurking on the web by suggesting this option. Keeping logged in in my opinion is an invitation to a possible security risk. As you know from observing “Statistics” in your website, the majority of folks get on the Message Forum just to look around at what’s new. Having the feature to redirect back to the Message Forum (once signed in) could help create more classmate participation. For us older folk, signing-in then forgetting what we signed in for… is not a rare occurrence these days….

I would like to see "Class Creator" do a work-around to ‘redirect back’ to the Message Forum. Is this possible for "Class Creator" to do this?

The fear of hackers by being always logged in only applies if you are not at home and especially if on a public computer. Otherwise, it's not an issue.

How does a hacker get access with always being logged in? Because you are not at home and using a service that may not be secured. FYI that's the beauty of https - they can't intercept the traffic from your own house.

Our sites are not exactly ripe for exploitation in the sense of some sort of money making scheme. Banking, etc are a different animal and there is where more caution is appropriate.

Gwen,
Thanks for the correction! Yes, I meant "Class Creator". I would like to see Class Creator do a work-around to ‘redirect back’ to the Message Forum.

Is this possible for "Class Creator" to do this?

Hi Rex,

If you make it "Restrict to Classmates only" it will do what you are wanting it to do. It is already set up to remember the page name you were on if the page itself is restricted. In this case it isn't the page, but the function of posting, that is restricted. Message forums are typically restricted to classmates.

True but drifts very far from where we started: always being logged into a website does not expose one more to "hackers lurking". Indeed if there are really hackers looking at your system, you have bigger problems.

The key difference is that with an http connection you can literally see everything that is sent as regular text. With https the data is scrambled. For example, your login information is readily stole with http.

After that you are always depending on your provider and host to prevent "hacking" - totally unrelated to https.

https essentially makes stealing your login credentials much harder - but has nothing do with how well a provider has their system configured [many ISP sites have configuration errors and easily hacked].

As noted earlier, sites that are NOT your home present a different and more common security issue - can't really be trusted.
