I have been sending a few class emails and one In Memory notice and I'm not getting them but my classmates are. My emails are correct in my Details. Is there somewhere else I can check? Also, I have a primary and alternate email and sometimes I just get emails in my primary but not alternate. Help?

Thanks,
Debbie

Hi Debbie,
Which email provider is your alt? While all the primary and alt addresses for me and my test member have been working normally since the last Yahoo mess was finally resolved, I've heard lately that some hotmail users are not getting emails.

You can look at Statistics > Notify Me for sent and read counts for the days you send class emails. You know how many should be sent - (probably plus some other notifies too) but the daily "Sent" count is not as helpful as it could be since some people are set to Immediate and some are set to Once Daily.

The "Read" count suggests how many got the emails, although that too is often not a solid reflection of activity for the same Immediate/Daily reason, and because because some classmates don't check their email regularly - AND that READ number is increased (up to 100% of sent count) whenever someone views (or previews) that email multiple times.

You can use Email The Class to send yourself a test email or two, and if it works sometimes and fails at times, it may be that your Mail ISP has limits on the number of emails they will accept over some time frame.

If it is not a hotmail address then check to make certain that noreply@classcreator.net is whitelisted/approved sender/added to your contacts to ensure messages do not go to spam/junk.

If it is hotmail here is some additional information about hotmail

Microsoft stopped supporting hotmail in 2012 and discontinued their postmaster accounts where you could report email concerns. Many other developers who work with group/list based sending of email are complaining that they are also having issues with hotmail so developers are wondering if Microsoft is using hotmail as their testing ground for some of their upcoming email changes for list based sending systems.

We are already deep in the process of testing a new email configuration that addresses all of the upcoming changings coming to some of the major email providers over the next few years. Although some of them are still defining their rules and plans we have enough information from developers who have been beta testing the changes to know the general direction. Some of the developers making these changes that should not be required yet are reporting improved hotmail delivery so it is becoming clearer hotmail may be their Guinea pig for testing those changes. This is definitely happening to other systems that allow their users to create their own lists and send emails to those lists.

In the meantime you may wish to add a free gmail account to your alternate email addresses under Member Functions > Edit Contact Info >

Jessica,

Yesterday a member reported they had stopped getting e-mails from the site about 2 months ago to an msn address. Could this be related to the difficulty with hotmail?

I also have not received any emails at my hotmail.com address for about two months. I have an alternate gmail.com address to which they come, but it'd be nice to once again receive emails at my hotmail address.

MSN could be related if Microsoft choose to tweak there in addition to testing on Hotmail. The two systems are separate.

For MSN I would check to make certain that the user doesn't have their messages going to spam/junk and that they have noreply@classcreator.net whitelisted.

Jessica,
I have been trying to fix my class email, notifications and private emails that show being sent but are not delivered to my classmates. I see you said in your prior entry that Class Creators is working a new release that addresses ISP blocking our emails.

It will help me significantly in getting my system to take advantage of our existing and the coming of the new email system if you could comment on the following questions:

1.   When do you expect the new email changes to be implemented to address the blocking of our emails?

2.   If I ask my classmates to create an alternate email in their profile, does Class Creator send a duplicate email to the alternate email? Is Gmail still the best for them to use as the alternate email address in their profile.

3.   Is there a way under the current email system to find which emails are being blocked? When I send a Class Email, it says everyone is delivered. I run a separate Newsletter from a different vendor. From the Newsletter I can see who receiving mails. I use the same email address that I have in Class Creator. This allows to me eliminate classmate’s emails addresses that are not working. I move those changes into Class Creator. Class Creator does not tell me correctly who received their email or what to do about it. Any recommendations would be appreciated?

4.   I have asked my classmates to check their junk emails to make sure Class Creator emails are not being sent there. I have also told them to put noreply@classcreator.net in their contact list. Is there any other Class Creator email addresses that they should put into their contact list?

5.   How do I determine if those email servers accept the use of whitelisting? Do you know which ones of email servers are blocking your emails so I can make sure they use an alternate email function? I have included my list of classmates’ email servers that we are using.

If you have any other thoughts that would help us make my email system more reliable, I would appreciate it. We do not have a lot of traffic using emails, but at our 60th reunion I receive a lot of comments of how important it has been in communicating with their fellow classmates. We are now in our 80’s. We are losing classmates at a higher rate than ever. Communication is becoming more important as we age.

Any help would be appreciated,
Jack Holt

Hi Jack,

1. If all goes well we will be launching it within the next few weeks.

2. Yes we send duplicates if they add an alternate email address. Gmail is free and Google is committed to keeping it updated so yes I would recommend gmail in general.

3. Hotmail appears to be sporadic for some and not delivering or bouncing for others. Microsoft stopped supporting that product in 2012 and they may be using it as a testing ground for some of their new filters. They don't always provide bounces and there is no postmaster to report it to so we can't ask them why they aren't bouncing.

Bounce reporting should improve in general based on the tests we have been running on the new set up.

Our email system is not a full contact management system with delivery/bounce data for each address. It would require a lot of additional overhead and would impact our ability to offer email as part of the system package. If you see a bounce in your external email system I would clean it up in this system as well during this update process.

4. Only platinum email would need to add other addresses as they would also have a noreply@theirdomain.com to add. Your class would not need to add anything else.

5. Hotmail is the only one that we are hearing consistent issues with at the moment.

Best thing you can do is have them whitelist if they can. Most email clients allow you to add noreply@classcreator.net to contacts where as others will have a separate area to add whitelisting. I don't have information on every email provider. There are sites like this one that outlines many of the common providers

Jessica, I want thank you for responses in this email. I followed your suggestions. It made a big difference in improving the emails going to the class. I hoping from your side that we will see new updates that are coming soon. We are not all the way there, but we are getting there. Here is what I have done.
The best change was adding gmail address as the new ID. This fixed the emails and allowed my classmates who did it to reset passwords in case of failure. Some classmates kept their ID and just added the gmail address. They now get emails, but can not change their passwords. I also downloaded the email addresses of all our classmates and subscribed to a Newsletter service. I now have sure way until the email is totally fixed that I have way of staying in touch with my classmates. I am having my classmates follow the instruction in the whitelist video that you sent me. I know Outlook to include Hotmail.com and msn.com do not work even if whitelisted. There is evidence that Yahoo is working. The journey continues.

Still having problems with email and now even classmates are not receiving them. I sent an In Memory email, but it hasn't gone through to either my primary and alternate emails and some classmates did not receive it either. I updated to Platinum because I was running out of space and thinking it would help with my email issues. I use Outlook and Yahoo for my primary/alternate email service. Any Suggestions?

Thanks ... Debbie

I have been working this issue since early June. Here is what I have found so far that Outlook users do not work. I believe Yahoo does not work either. Your alternate ID should be a gmail account. I used gmail as an alternate ID and it worked. I later made the gmail account my primary ID because since you do not get email to your account, you cannot change your password if it fails. When you look up to my last post just before Jessica's post, I downloaded all my class emails addresses. I had just under 50% of my users were gmail that do get our sites emails. I have others as well, but I am still working on the list. I am working to determine what email providers are rejecting our emails. I also took those email addresses and loaded them into a Newsletter service outside of Class Creator. I had some those email go to some classmates junk file initially, but I also had their cell phones. I texted those people to check their junk mail so I had a way to communicate with them if their email was not working on Class Creator and they did not want to create a gmail account. Jessica said they are supposed to implement an enhancement to their email system sometime the end of this month or early October. I was not fast enough in figuring what I am telling you so we had to cancel a mini-reunion that we were planning. We finished our 60 reunion last year. My suggestion is get a separate Newsletter running and make sure it is not in their junk file. You will then have a way to communicate with classmates while you are fixing the Class Creator email. I hope that helps. Maybe Jessica can make a comment on this strategy. I have no pride. I just want it to work.

Thanks Jack. I'm now getting emails with my primary email but not my alternate. I've whitelisted the addresses but no luck. So frustrating.

Thanks for all your input.

Debbie,
Is your primary email an outlook account. My Outlook email address ends in msn.com. It does not work. Is your primary email still outlook? If it is Hotmail, one of classmates reports it does not work either. I would interested how you got your Outlook account working.

My primary is Yahoo and alternate is Outlook but I've always received my emails in Outlook until the last few times I've sent emails.

My Outlook failed sometime in the May-June time frame. I tried all the suggestions that Jessica suggested. I finally changed the primary to Gmail, because while trying different ideas, I messed up my password. I could not reset my password myself which needed email to work. My backup administrator could not change it as well. Class Creator had to send me a new password. This is when I switched to Gmail for my primary email. Yahoo was the first problem that I recognized was not working. If you get your Outlook working I would like to know how you did it. Thanks for the input.
