As Administrator, when trying to update the profile for a classmate who just joined the website I wanted to upload a Master Photo. The first time I did it, it seemed to work as expected. However, the photo did not look good which I thought might be because the resolution was too low. Therefore, I removed the originally uploaded photo and tried to do it again but that failed. It appears that the upload process is functioning but there is nothing listed when it completes. It seems to be behaving as if removal applies to every subsequent photo for the subject user.

If you change the name of the photo, it will probably work.

Yup, change the name. There's a bug in another part of the file vault where it will NOT show a different preview if you don't change the name. I doubt it will ever be fixed, so I did not bother to report

Bug does appear to be a good fit with this experience. I know I did try changing the image to .png format rather than .jpg which would seem to qualify as a name change. However, that was no help. Per above suggestion I also changed the file name portion. This did conclude the upload with an image displayed in the list (unlike prior attempt). However, simply selecting the image from the list still did not result in an image showing in the Yearbook box. Therefore, thinking there was progress being made I decided to throw my own dart. This consisted of invoking the editor which was now available once the image appeared in the list. Without making any actual changes I exited the editor and now the image is showing up in the Yearbook box. Something else, I noticed for the first time, that I do find strange is that when I display the list of photos that I uploaded to my personal profile as a classmate rather than an administrator (of course whenever I login I have administrator permissions) the Yearbook photo, for me, is not included in the list of photos. Anyway, the Yearbook photo is now being displayed for the new classmate who joined our site. In that, my immediate problem is gone even though it looks like this problem persists with the Class Creator software. Many thanks for helping me with this problem.
