In August, we completed a very successful 50th reunion. During the event I was asked if I could create and share a class directory. I said I could, but that may breach the privacy commitment we made when we launched our website. In our post-reunion survey, we asked if there was interest in a directory and what information should be included. There was unanimous support for creating a directory, but a variety of suggestions on what to include. I'm hesitant to take on the role of periodically publishing updates. I'm wondering if it makes sense to add a profile field where the classmates enter whatever contact information they feel like sharing (email, phone, physical address, social media, etc.). This information would then be available for other classmates to view, and no need to periodically publish a directory document. Has anyone else gone this route? Any thoughts on a different approach? Many years ago, some personal info used to display along with family, members in a profile view. When CC decided that sharing some personal information like phone numbers was a privacy violation, we added a Viewable Contact Information profile question where those who wanted to could add personal info like phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, etc. After reassuring everyone the added info would only be available to logged in and verified members and guests, most took advantage of it. We reference it in the disclaimer/warning/privacy paragraph at the bottom of our home page.

Excellent John! That's my plan to a "T". I'll begin work on this immediately. Quick follow-up question... does adding a profile question trigger any kind of notification to the class members? I want to communicate the intent of the question and "reassuring everyone the added info would only be available to logged in and verified members and guests". Thanks for the info!!
