Image sizes.jpg

In uploading photos to the separate photo galleries I have created on a new site I noticed the difference in sizes when I click on the thumbnails. I would like all of the thumbnails to open at the size of the one on the right but some open with the size on the left. Anyway to get it show same on all galleries?

Thanks in advance.

Without seeing the gallery and originals have to guess.

The way to get photos to be consistently sized the same is to make all the images no wider than 1000 pixels or 1000 pixels tall before uploading. You can upload larger but then how CC processes images becomes involved Smile

The maximum size of gallery photos as stored is 1000 either dimension. If larger they are "trimmed" to that size. If smaller, no changes are made.

IOW, if you upload images smaller than this, they will be displayed at a smaller size, not 1000px. (Not counting html image adjustments, I'm talking about the actual image stored online.)

This is not the same as the size of the uploaded image - the one you show is not the actual image in gallery, but I believe the image on your system.

Firefox is the easiest to use to see the actual size of images on a web page. Right click with mouse over an image, select "View Image Info". The "scaled" info is the html adjustment for the image for your page size.

( As an aside, there's a gallery script I'm finishing that displays ALL images at a consistent full page size. It's pretty much the same as the one I did before, except you don't have to put the images on a page, just give the location of the images. Preferably stored in the FILE (not IMAGE) vault. This JVscripts site has examples of prior version. Sort of like CC in that it shows thumbnails of all the images. Go to AutoZoom, AutoGallery section. )

If you make the longest side of your photos 1000 it works great. I've uploaded over 5,000 photos to our class website over the last 9 years with no problems.

Can you please provide standard image dimensions for pages and for other photos please? In 2012 administrator said, 1000 x 1000 px. Is that still true?

A bit long read, but this is an overview. There is no "standard" that covers all the various ways an image can be displayed. Although 1000x1000 works, you may not really want to do that.

It depends on how you upload, where you display them and your desired size.

There are three places to upload images. The ones in the Editor are called Files and Images. The third place is the Gallery system. The gallery is independent of the first two.

When you click the Image icon on the top in the Editor you will access the Images vault.

Clicking the Link Icon on the right references the Files vault. Inside there you can also access Images

The IMAGES FILE VAULT automatically resizes to 700px wide - if the size is wider.

The FILES FILE vault does not change the image dimensions.

The Gallery system's maximum size is 1000. Any image larger than this is reduced to 1000. Any image smaller is displayed at that size. [There may have been some changes since I made that post in 2019, although 1000 will always work, it may not really be what you want to do.]

When an image is resized the physical storage space of the image typically increases -- sometimes a LOT. So it's best to not let images get resized OR use Files to store images. If using Files, you can use the settings in the Editor to set the size (if required).

Changing the displayed size of images is done using HTML. The "safe" method to do this is to use a width of "100%" not an actual size. This will automatically use the maximum space available on the page. Do not enter a height.

Your site is the older design using a fixed width design. The newer Design is called "Responsive". That automatically adapts to smaller screens such as phones so that screen display is not squished too small to see. That's a whole different discussion. IMO it's well worth it to learn how that works. Our Site is "Responsive". If you view it on your phone you can see how it changed vs on a larger computer screen.
