RE: Class Creator is great!

A lot of people have asked how to create a table so I will do my best to explain how to do it.

What you should do is go to "post announcement" and "create new announcement"

As you look at the menu ( the menu with the source button and such) click on "insert/edit table"---it's the icon in the second row, 4th from the right.

For table properties, put on 1 for row, and 1 for column, alignment is center. I put in 350 for pixel width (but you can adjust that with your cursor once you get the table made) Click on ok. If you want to skip that step, here is the source code for a table :

<table cellspacing="1" cellpadding="1" width="350" align="center" border="1" style="width: 350px; height: 25px">
    <tbody>
        <tr>
            <td>&nbsp;</td>
        </tr>
    </tbody>
</table>

You will have a table that will look like a wide and short skinny rectangle. At this point you can insert any text or images you want. The table will adjust to whatever you cut and paste or write within the table.

When I am inserting a table (or box) within a table, I just "copy" the table a few times and insert it within the other table. You can change the color of each table by right clicking on it, clicking on "cell" and then clicking on "cell properties" and then under background color, click "select" and it will show you the colors you can choose.

You can adjust the size of your tables by left clicking on the table (in a corner or border) and moving your cursor to adjust.

I hope this helps. This is the best way I think to explain it. If you need any more clarification, just post it and I will try to answer it.

Thanks,
Katie

Hi Katie,

I agree that putting a 'border' around the announcements, or creating 'boxes' for them makes them jump out, thus, making them much more likely to be read.

If you have instructions on how to create something like that using 'tables', I would love to learn how. You can email me directly, if you would.

Thanks for sharing!  Blessiings, N

Hi Katie,

I would also like to learn how you did your colorful announcement. I have been playing around with the tables but still don't have it and love learning new things in here ~ that's what makes it so exciting! I love to dazzle my classmates with something fresh and new! They all think I am a web designer ~ but I'm really a bookkeper (Shhhh).

Thanks,

Class creator is the way to go and everyday I learn and yearn for something someone else has done.

I notice on your site, you have a red background, with the main foucus in the center. Tell me how I can do that too!

I notice that on Katies site she has it set in a pumpkin patch --totally awesome!!

I wish I could tell you where I got it from, but I search the web for all the images and just save them, so I don't know the site. But here is the image and I believe the original file name.

I really would love to get directions on how you did your table and put the borders and colors! When you have a little time, please do provide the instructions.

Thanks,

Do you mean the welcome announcement? It's done with tables and then I inserted a photobucket slideshow of yearbook photos (if that is what you are talking about) If you want any instructions, write me back and I'll help you with it if you want. By the way, I really like your background. Where did you get it?

Thank you Katie. :)

Agreed, great job on your site and utilization of the tools available.

One of the things that makes Class Creator great (as I modestly agree with you) is the user ideas that come from this forum. We shaped the initial system, but after all of the feedback and suggestions given by all of you the system today barely resembles where it started. For this reason I've said for awhile now that Class Creator is a system shaped by the users, for the users. Our job has become one of listening to all of you, and then trying to keep up with the enormous Task List you keep giving us. :)

For those of you who are new on class creator, you have to know how great a site that Brad (and all) have created! We started our site in February of 2008 and since then we have had over 27,000 visitors. We had a class of over 850 and we are almost 50% of our class who have joined (which is a great number considering the size of our class!
Thanks to Class Creator and all who have shared their ideas in the forum. If you're new, keep it up. It's a great way to reconnect with old friends and make new friends.

Our site is constantly changing---keeps people interested. Particularly having fun with it during the holiday season. Check it out.

I like that effect, but after the ring is completed, it is hard to read what is written. You should probably use less text or expand the circumference of the circle or a smaller font.

To change the circumference of the circle, modify this line:
var circleY = 0.75; var circleX = 2;
