RE: TLS Code on Classcreator Email

Ok, I have an answer on this, sorry for the delay.

First, for anyone else who may be reading, I should make it clear that our own email system is exactly that, internal. It cannot be read by any other software -- you have to log into your web site to read your class email messages.

You can, however, purchase private POP3 email boxes for your domain name from Classnames.net. Those emails can be read with any standard POP3 email reader, such as Outlook Express. Apparently Gmail can also pull in POP3 email from other systems if those systems support TLS code, which I didn't even know until now. Unfortunately this cannot happen at this time through gmail, because Classnames.net is really just eNom.com, which is a private Registrar that we didn't personally set up. Their email system is currently not compatible with gmail, although it's quite likely that may change in the future.

What do you mean by Classcreator email system?

I'm coming in on the middle of the conversation, but I'd be happy to try to help if you fill me on what you are trying to set up.

Thanks,

All right, I see. To pull it in through Gmail our system has to support TLS. As far as I can tell Mdaemon does in fact support TLS. Although I have no idea if it's enabled or not, or if we possibly need to upgrade Mdaemon. You can probably tell I'm not the email guru around here, that would be Rick Root. Oh Rick, what can you tell us about Mdaemon, TLS Code, and supporting Gmail?

RE: Check/Send Messages

Brad,

Sorry to have to tell you this, but I'm getting the blame for the change of name to 'Message Center'. I've had e-mails from Classmates already who don't like it and can't understand why it was necessary. It tends to irritate us this side of the pond. Funny how something that would seem to be so minor can have such an effect on people. As I've said, I don't like it either, so, please push the option to change headings higher up your Task list, or revert to the old heading, or use Mail Box, which is much more universal.

Yours hopefully,
Mark
I have a related question Kyle!

I have entered my list of classmates. Now I am entering emails for people who's emails I already know. If I put the email I have as their primary email - or will that mess them up when the actually try and log in for the first time? Or should I just put any and all emails I have for a person as under alternate email, so that I can send out a mass email but people new to the website can still log in with no problems and indicate on their own what their primary email is?

Thanks!
Krista Burbach
Krista,

If you put the e-mail as the primary e-mail address, you won't have a problem. When someone clicks JOIN NOW to sign up, they can put their own e-mail as their primary e-mail and it will overwrite the one that you put there.

So it doesn't matter if you put an e-mail in the primary or secondary location. The JOIN NOW will replace it.

Hope this helps ya.
