Invalid File Format?

I scanned my class photo to a PDF and tried to upload it but I get an "Invalid File Format" message. I tried saing the photo as a Word doc but get the same message. Any ideas?

PDF files and Word documents are not image formats -- they are document formats. You need to save your picture in a true image format, such as jpg. Then try uploading your jpg.

Is there any way to upload or copy or paste or anything like that (excuse the lack of computer lingo) a pdf file?
