Military Flag with no military service

I'm in the process of setting up an "Honors and Tributes" page, that will list everyone who has served in the military. While checking over the listings I found one person (Gail Clark), with a flag next to her name, even though she has no military service listed on her profile. Could you tell me how this might happen?

Gail Clark had a SPACE character in her Military Service. I guess the flag icon appears if ANYTHING appears in the Miltary Service box. I deleted the extra character in the Military Service box and now the flag has gone away.
