You have set up the link for your left navigation. Now you need to click the button to the right that says Create New Photo Gallery. This will give you a new table row in white below your blue row that says Photo Gallery. That will have the photos link in it.

I have the same issue. I created "Group Photos" as a gallery. I see the link button on the left. I do not see an icon to click that allows me to upload photos. Here is a screen shot. -Mike
