Adding a field to classmate records

Is it possible to add a "field" to all classmate records that only Admins can see? I know that there is a "notes" type field, but I am thinking of being able to create a check box or something to keep track of say, all members of our class cabinet. Or who was in band, choir, etc. Thanks.
