Okay, one of our administrators got the below message when making an adjustment to her contact page. This is new and I can not find anything regarding it in the forum. Please enlighten us!

Is it a new feature? Can we adjust the response. Can we do this for phone numbers? Is it only for certain conditions?

The last part of the statement is not actually true in all cases and depends if the classmate has chosen not to allow others to see their information by checking a box at the bottom of the profile page.

HERE IS THE MESSAGE:

Contact Information

Oops!
You have entered city and/or state information without including a street address. Please include your street address in order to continue. Your street address is private, not seen by fellow members, and can only be viewed by the Site Administrator as a means of contacting you.

A very good question. This popup resulted because Admins really need contact information, and we want to do everything we can to obtain it. We can't absolutely force people to provide it, or those who truly don't want to will just enter incorrect information, and now you've got bad contact information, which is worse than having none at all. But we can force people to either give no contact info, or all contact info. The problem with an incomplete address, such as having the city and the state but not having the street, is that now the system can't do a lot of the things it needs to do. Such as plot Classmates accurately on the map. Or include addresses in the upcoming Avery label feature.

So...this statement attempted to avoid getting incomplete contact information. There's really 2 problems with the statement though:

1) It doesn't tell the user how to proceed if they truly don't want to supply contact information. Again, you'd rather have a blank than to force these people to make something up just to continue.

2) As you stated, the statement doesn't mention the fact that address information can in fact be shared if desired.

Some parts of the system need to be standard and I think this is one of them, so I changed the statement as follows, correcting the 2 issues above:

"You have entered city and/or state information without including a street address. In order to continue please either include your street address, or remove the city and state information. Your street address is private and not seen by fellow members unless you deliberately allow it. We may need your street address as a means of contacting you and encourage you to supply it."
