Help Videos
Posted Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 9:06 PM
Hello Brad,Scott,Kyle, Thanks for adding 2 help videos. 1. How to embed a youtube video 2. How to create/activate POLL I may have seen it yesterday on my test/draft page but today I'm positive that wasn't on there before. The heat is affecting brain activity.

Over the coming weeks we'll be adding some Help Videos around Admin like the 3 you see so far (the other one is in the Admin Rights area). The videos are for Administrators only and are not seen by Classmates. Although we are going to make some Classmate-specific Help Videos as well, which each Administrator will have the option of turning on or not.

Brad, the help videos are well done. Would you have an ETA on the ones that classmates can access? Is there any way I can use the YouTube embed video on my site to assist members?

Classmates already have a Youtube overview video. You see the same thing there because you're also a Classmate of course. Just click your Edit Profile link and then click the Help Video icon next to the YouTube area to watch the video.

Sorry, I misunderstood your July 6 entry (above). It talks about videos only admins can see & you'd be making some for Classmates soon. I thought you meant that they couldn't see the Upload to YouTube video. Good, good. That saves me some 'splaining' to my users.

That announcement was for the Admin only version of the YouTube help video, which is very different from the Classmate version. So you see it's actually my fault for confusing you.

While I'm terribly impressed & grateful for your speedy reply, my Calif. clock says 8:30 p.m. -- which means it's probably 10:30 your time. Get some sleep so you can address my stupid questions tomorrow!

Sorry I only address the stupid questions at night. All intelligent questions will be addressed by day.

On your 'Help Video,' 'How To Create and Add a Poll', just what does the text on 'Your High School Class of 1968' home page translate to in English? Inquiring minds want to know!

I have absolutely no idea. I sure hope it isn't anything bad though.

Speaking of "stupid questions" somewhere I got the impression you were leaving on VACATION for a month, beginning last Friday 8/6/2010. Now Brad, I also remember your telling me that you "love" your work/job, but come on now--spending time "working" while on an "R & R vacation" sounds a little like an oxymoron. Someone needs to make a HELP video for Brad, showing him "HOW TO TAKE A VACATION" Anyone back in Michigan up for the task? Be sure it gets posted on all 10 forums on this site!

When someone has time ( )I think we need a help video explaining, in more detail, the 4 check boxes on Security on the Profiles page at the bottom of the page. I know that the wording is there, but I get more questions about these 4 boxes than anything else. Specifically, most people do not understand that the address and phone number are not visible to anyone but logged in classmates. Then have a link to it so we can put the link on our pages for info sake. When anyone asks me, I suggest that they check all 4 boxes. Thanks

Rick, That might be a good idea, but I happen to have FIVE check boxes. For me they seem to be rather self explanatory. At one time I thought they were written in Latin, by Mexicans, who thought they were in Japan and made to sound like MUD, but after they added that 5th question--sounds pretty darn clear. Now if you have never dealt with some of these wonderful VOICEMAIL systems out there, then I can see why you might be inclined to need a help video.

No plans for a Help Video here. I did update the wording on the address/phone checkbox though to make it more clear. This is the most highly debated area of the system and the wording you see in there now is the result of months worth of input and numerous forum posts here. Thus the slightest change creates issues, trust me. I'd hesitate to put Help Videos here because this is the one area of the system more than any other where people are never going to fully agree. So in this area we walked the line as best we could and then made some final decisions. Any video will lead to huge debate and probably redos -- much better off to just try to make the wording as clear as possible. Take a look at what I added and see if you think this helps.
