Not long ago, I ran a 10-day challenge on an alumni site.

  • The challenge: share the site address with family and friends who attended the school. (No push to join.)
  • As the challenge went up, I added a question in the Profile Generator: "How did you hear about this site?"
  • By August 1st, we had thirteen new members; not bad since we did not have a goal.

Fast forward to August 8th - a member of the class of 1962 joined from his home in Spain. I went in search of his reply to how he learned about us. He wrote: "Apprised of its existence by the research staff in my office."

Well how about that? I love it! Cool

You know you talk/chat with many, many site members when a reply to 'how did you hear about this site' is...

"Gwen"

Really? Oops! Cool
