photo albums

This should be an easy one. What is you all's vote for the best 3rd party option to allow classmates to upload old photos to a page. I've been reading about plenty of photo albums but not sure if those only allow admins to upload photos. I want to give them the ability to upload pics (similar to facebook users and groups) Thanks

Slide.com is good, Photobucket.com is good. I've seen many people successfully integrate Photobucket into their sites. Your threaded forums are also a very good option for picture sharing which you can use now. Later this year we'll be adding a Community Photo Gallery feature to the system so people can upload collective images all into one gallery. That's several things down the Task List currently, so we're probably looking around Fall for Community Galleries.

what are you talking about "threaded forums"? I am trying to find the easiest way to get my reunion pics on a page for everyone to see.

You, the Admin, can upload pics to any page of your site. Or if you'd like, you can dedicate a custom page to just reunion photos. See this site's reunion photos for example. I was recommending the threaded forums (under your Edit Site Pages, User Forums) as a way of allowing your Classmates (non members) to also share their reunion pictures. For example you could create a whole forum called "Share your reunion photos" or something like that, and in this way people can not only share photos with each other, but also discuss them in your forums as well.

Since it's been a couple of months since you said that fall was a target for your "community gallery" feature, I was wondering what your target is now that it is the middle of August - thanks!

Now that this feature is moving up on the Tracker a little more I'm going to estimate about 9 weeks.

Is the Community Gallery going to allow us to create slideshows as well? I just spent the entire weekend trying to put together a slideshow of 40th reunion pictures but I have overr 200 photos and most of the plugins have photo limits. I found Slideroll, and uploaded all my photos, but creating a slideshow from the photos is not an intuitive process. Somehow I ended up with 3 slideshows and none of them have ALL my pictures loaded on it. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately I don't know. For that I can only suggesting inquiring with the developer of the slide show app. No, Community Photo Galleries will be an area where all members can post photos. They will all be converted to thumbnail images and then expand to large images when clicked, like most other photo galleries. There are all kinds of things out there that we have no plans to make internally because it's so easy to use existing applications. That includes things such as video players and hosting (what could be better than Youtube, and the cost is right), slideshows (Photobucket.com, Smilebox.com, Onetruemedia.com, Slide.com etc.), music players (would be impossible to outdo Project Playlist for music). If there are existing apps that fulfill these needs extremely well we'll let them do that and focus on what we do best.

I think I missed something somewhere along the way. What will be the difference between 'Photo Galleries' and 'Community Photo Galleries'? Virginia

Photo Galleries can be created only by an Admin. Community Photo Galleries will be photo collections that Classmates can contribute to.

So does that mean we, the admins, don't have to use a customizable link to display the photos if we don't want to? Or will the photo galleries be on the same order as the customizable links? And will we be given more file vault space with the addition of these two gallery types? Just a few questions - thanks, Virginia

It will be a new feature, so no, it won't be realted to Customizable Links or make you use up any of those. No, with 250 megs of file space, several thousand photos can be posted, which should be sufficient for just about anyone. Larger items, such as videos, can be easily hosted at Youtube. Easy to do and ya can't beat the price.

I have having a terrible time embedding an album from photobucket. Guess I am really computer stupid. I keep seeing the post about the community photo page that is due to be ready this month. Should I quit pulling out my hair and wait for this feature? Will this be a lot easier to use than trying to embedding? duh

It is inactive. On Edit Site Pages, it is right below "Message Forum" If you want it visible, you need to activate it.

Your message is a bit old but you can use this website to actually post all your yearbook photos along with any other photo's you wish, then and now! In the search type in high school reunions and see what others have done. YOU PUBLISH http://issuu.com/

Do we have an updated status on the Community Photo Album feature? Not sure if it is still slated for November.
