How do you get the eagle to walk? I copied, saved and tried to post on my home page but he won't walk!

Hi...
i had the same problem and it drove me crazy! You have to make sure that you download it as a "GIF" and i placed ours in an announcement, adjusted the width to 380 and he walked!
The seemingly impossible just takes a little longer!
Have Fun!
p.s. Thanks. Your page looks great! Thank you for remembering.

It's been a while and i am essentially clueless on the specifics, but i just checked and the width is 370 for ours, and i think that's when he finally started to walk...! He needs space...does he walk in your initial download, but not after you paste? Kyle and Brad just gave the answer to that one recently...i'm just not sure which forum "answer", but it was about moving gif's just this past weekend! Sorry!
Try to have Fun!

Have no fear, I hold the magic key to making that eagle walk! Here's your gif animation lesson for the day:

First, see this thread to learn about maximum image sizes on various parts of your site. It's very important you understand the information here.

Next, when you click the eagle image posted above and you're seeing him walk, right click on him and then click Properties. You'll note in the properties that the size of the animzation is 535 x 177.

You're probably already seeing how these two pieces of information fit together. The eagle is too big to fit into most areas of your web site without being resized. If you upload the original animation into an area where you don't have that much room available, or system will automatically resize your image to the maximum possible size, and in the process only preserves the first frame of the animation. And that's why he no longer walks.

So what to do?

You need to resize the eagle animation to a size at or below the maximum possible size based on where you're trying to upload it. After doing this you then need to upload the resized animation instead of the original, that was too large.

IMPORTANT: You have to resize the original animation using software that preserved gif animated frames on the resize. One such software program is Irfanview, which is free at www.irfanview.com. Once you've resized the image with Irfanview and uploaded the new smaller image, that Eagle will proudly walk!

Ok, I understand about having to resize the gif through Irfanview. When trying to download Irfanview, it just asks if I want to save the binary file. I don't see anywhere where I can click on an icon on my desktop to access it. Embarassed

Thanks Kris. Smile

Tina, save the exe file to your desktop. Once it's there just double click it to install Irfanview.

1) Right click the animated eagle and save it to your desktop.
2) Save the Irfanview exe file to your desktop too.
3) Double click the EXE file and install Irfanview.
4) Now click Start, Programs, and actually run Irfanview.
5) Inside of the Irfanview interface click File, Open, and open your eagle animation saved on your desktop.
6) Resize, save as a new file name, and upload that new file to your web site. The Eagle will now walk.

Make sure the image is open inside the Irfanview softeware, then click the Image menu along the top, then select Resize/Resample.

My image is inside but when I pull down the Image menu, everything is grayed out except for Information, Create new (empty)image, create panorama image, effects, swap colors and palette. I can't click on resize/resample

Here is a nice tutorial about how to do it. Brad is missing a few steps. The "Resize" doesn't work with an animated image. You need to EXTRACT all of the separate images, then resize the separate images, then convert them back to an animated GIF again.

Weird! Numerous people here have used Irfanview to resize GIF animations. In fact somebody just preserved an animated logo yesterday with Irfanview. So why resize on this particular image is grayed out I have no clue.

Here, just use this instead. This one resizes the Eagle just fine and preserves all animated frames.

Kris,

Is this walkingeagle2.gif the right one? When I click on it, the width seems to be over 400 pixels wide, but if it is supposed to be a smaller one, it should be less than 400 pixels. The size of this walking eagle is 535 X 177, which is too big.

Thanks

Kyle

Kyle.
Here's the code from my source that i sent to Tina:

<img height="132" width="370" src="/000/1/4/5/9541/userfiles/image/walkingeagle.gif" alt="" />

the above is pasted in an announcement, the following is pasted on our source for our AmericatheBeautiful page:

<img height="177" width="399" alt="" src="/000/1/4/5/9541/userfiles/image/walkingeagle.gif" />

i believe she copied the picture from our homepage, so the codes were in sync?! but she finally got hers to salute and march also! i've seen a few sites that have successfully made the eagle march, so maybe they have some insights!Very Happy
The gif is the same as posted initially, but firstborn son used Brad's resizing instructions and his fingers moved so fast, i couln't see exactly what he did, but we have the saluting eagle in various places and same results as per Brad's instructions...sorry, i will try to get more specifics when i can catch him (he's making some you-tubes from reunion videos for me and not very cheerful during this "project" as he has more fun things he could be doing!) Someday i hope to figure all this out! Hope Springs Eternal!
Thanks again!
